Our Namibian winter is in full swing and as the temperatures drop, the excitement rises because there is so much to look forward to. With high season around the corner, we are putting the final touches on what will be once in life time experiences for our visitors.Â The excitement builds even more with the excitement of the regional growth strategy, linking our offices in Namibia, East Africa and Botswana. Our management has visited those countries and East Africa has spent time in our offices working on best practice platforms to provide our agents with a seamless product offering throughout Africa. So many changes in the pipeline, watch this space for updates.
Our new 2015/16 Brochure was launched at Indaba in Durban during May 2015. You will be receiving this shortly along with the new FDM link containing rates sheets for the new season.
About our Team
Tomorrow is not a continuation of today, but a whole new chapter with new challenges. Following the growth within the regional Tourvest Destination Management structures, along with our purpose of â€œexceeding customer expectationsâ€ we have made some changes within the operational structure within Namibia, which we would like to share with you.
As there are so many more consultants new within the company, we have two Reservations Managers to lead, manage, train and nurture the team. Sonja Bachran and Estelle Malan have both been promoted from Team Managers to Reservations Managers. The erstwhile Reservations Manager, Tanya van As has been made operations Manager, responsible for the day to day running of the operational side of the business and ensure that our clients and our guests are looked after. For this, both the reservations/bookings side of the business as well as the logistics side (managed by Christelle Opperman) in respect of the tours on the road will report to her. The goal remains that our service to clients and guests will enjoy our utmost attention.

We have also had to bid a sad farewell to Silke Kuhn, but with her departure we are pleased to welcome back Sylvia Henke who had been part of the Sales & Marketing team for 7 years before leaving in 2012. Of all the many issues impacting Namibia and all the worthwhile causes that deserve support, the team in Namibia feels most strongly about poverty eradication and supports Governments position that the first place to start this is with the children. By providing children with an opportunity for care and education we are working towards the countries future. The Bishop Kameeta Kindergarten is the noble idea of Mrs Anna Fredericks, the founder, matron and head of this non-profit day care and pre-primary centre. The Kindergarten aims to enhance the lives of orphaned, HIV-infected or abandoned children and to meet their physical, emotional, social, mental and spiritual needs, all of which are essential elements for meaningful and positive development. In their own words they put their mission very simply as â€œempowering children to ensure them a brighter futureâ€. Their second aim is to give children a basic education that will enable them to be ready for school by the age of 6 years. This is a cause that we have been passionate about supporting and bringing awareness to since 2009.
Back in November 2014 we reported that Mrs Fredericks has been diagnosed with an eye disease and had to undergo an operation in May 2015. Here is an update on her condition: Mrs Fredericks, the initiator of the Kindergarten, was diagnosed with an eye disease, and after several opthomological visits we needed to purchase a pair of specialized spectacles which have given her a 90% vision again.
We have further success stories to tell for the Bishop Kameeta Kindergarten. Both classrooms are now fully tiled, all have proper lighting as well as new power points installed.
On the Move
Just before high season kicks in full force, it was the perfect time for the members of the team to get out and experience Namibia first hand. Two members of the reservations team, Desiree (Team Manager) and Liza (Tour Consultant), joined our â€œCanyons & Desertsâ€ scheduled tour for a first hand experience on what we offer our guests. Another group of tour consultants are also about to join our â€œCanyon & Desertsâ€ and â€œClassic Kaleidoscopeâ€ tours. This is all about the simple principle of “know what you sell and sell what you know”. This is what Desiree and Liza had to say:
Desiree: The experience on this tour was just amazing â€“ and being on tour with a bunch of different people and characters made it more interesting. In the end â€“ I made new friends, learned interesting facts about our beautiful country. I experienced an adventure which words could never do it justice! All in all, I recommend this tour to everyone and anyone!
And having an awesome guide, Ute von Ludwiger, made this experience unforgettable! This tour was simply more than just a journeyâ€¦
Liza: I went on the Canyonâ€™s & Desert Scheduled Tour Educational from the 06th to the 14th of Jun 2015 (Kalahari, Fish River Canyon, Aus, Sossusvlei & Swakopmund).Â Ute who was our guide on tour provided us with a lot of information. This is particularly helpful to me as a consultant to hear what the guides say.
Overall we had a fantastic time on tour and now I can fully understand the guests experience and explain to my agents and clients howÂ the Lodges look and what can be expected on these tours. I can just say thank you to Sense of Africa for this opportunity.
