Although there have always been spectacular beaches to explore along the Indian Ocean, the coast has seen an increase in new and intriguing eco-friendly properties being developed over the past few years, catering for a more upscale international market.

What you need to know

Mozambique has a tropical climate and between September and November is when the game viewing is at its best, the whale migration can be observed, and the weather is calm and warm. The beaches on both the Bazaruto and Quirimbas archipelagos are stunning throughout the dry season (April to December).

Mozambique offers a variety of destination types, along with ways to discover them. From guided tours to self drives, visitors can explore the vast marine life along the archipelagos, the wildlife in Gorongosa National Park, and the fascinating mix of cultures that can be discovered around the country.

Mozambique use the standard Continental 2 pin, 220v/50hz (standard Euro plug).  However, you may need a special adapter for foreign appliances.

It is a requirement that all guests travelling to Mozambique be adequately covered by comprehensive travel insurance to cover all aspects of their holiday, including international flights, loss and theft, medical requirements and emergency evacuation, and trip cancellation or interruption. Given limited healthcare infrastructure outside Maputo and the remoteness of coastal lodges and archipelagos such as Bazaruto and the Quirimbas, cover should extend to emergency medical evacuation and repatriation. Guests undertaking activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, deep-sea fishing, or dhow sailing should confirm their policy explicitly covers these. Cover should also account for cyclone-season disruption (November to April) and should remain valid for the specific region being visited — travel against Foreign Office advisories (currently in effect for parts of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, and Niassa provinces) can invalidate a policy. We would recommend guests organise travel insurance in their home country before departure.
