WINDHOEK
Our adventure begins in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital city. Meet your guide and fellow travellers at 14h00 before setting off to explore the city’s attractions after a short tour debriefing. Enjoy dinner at the legendary Joe’s Beerhouse Restaurant, before we head to bed for a good night of rest in preparation for our exciting departure in the morning.
Overnight at Movenpick Windhoek Hotel.
Day 2-3 | Sunday – Monday
NAMIB DESERT RESERVE
Today we leave civilisation behind to journey into the vast and pure wilderness of the Namib desert. Our destination is the Namib Rand Nature Reserve, home to rare and iconic animals, like the black rhino and the desert-adapted lion, along with more than 1 000 plant species. Our resting place tonight is a remote and private desert camp where you will end the day stargazing.
We head out on foot to explore in the company of an expert ecological guide. There is so much to learn about this extraordinary habitat, as we find and follow tracks and decode the tell-tale signature of survival in the harsh desert conditions. Relax at the camp or explore the area on foot until we depart on our afternoon desert drive, up and over the magnificent dunes. As evening approaches, enjoy a chilled sundowner before we slowly make our way back to camp, encountering nocturnal creatures along the way.
Overnight at At Kronenhof Lodge or similar – Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 4 | Tuesday
SOSSUSVLEI DUNES
It’s an early start this morning as we head into Sossusvlei via 4WD vehicle to climb the mammoth mountains of sand. Amid this vastness lies a stark contrast: Deadvlei. This white clay pan, once a vibrant oasis, now holds the skeletal remains of ancient camel thorn trees, petrified by the relentless desert sun. Our final destination for the day is the Sesriem Canyon, a colossal chasm carved over millennia, plunging 1 000 feet into the earth. Sunlight filters through its towering walls of ochre and rust, casting dramatic shadows and illuminating the canyon floor.
After a day of epic exploration, we retire for the night to recharge for our next day of adventuring the Namibian wilderness.
Overnight at Bushman’s Desert Lodge or similar – Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 5 – 6 | Wednesday – Thursday
SWAKOPMUND
Today we travel through the Namib-Naukluft National Park, home to some of the most dramatic scenery in Africa. We pass the Kuiseb Canyon, a geological marvel with walls that are a dramatic mix of colours.
We make our way through the port town of Walvis Bay before reaching our destination for the next few nights. Swakopmund is a vibrant seaside town with a strong German heritage.
Dine out like a local, and enjoy two days of exploring the town that will steal your heart. The adventurous will enjoy the thrill of quad biking, sand boarding, and skydiving. Perhaps a boat cruise or desert tour is more to your liking
Overnight at Swakopmund Plaza Hotel or similar – Breakfast and lunch (day 5 only).
Day 7 | Friday
SKELETON COAST – SPITZKOPPE
Today we head north along the Skeleton Coast. The vastness of the ocean marries with the Namib Desert, creating a landscape as captivating as it is unforgiving. We visit Cape Cross, a spectacular breeding ground for Cape Fur Seals, where more than 100 000 seals take refuge.
We then venture back inland, travelling through the vast Namib desert to the iconic Spitzkoppe. Aptly nicknamed the “Matterhorn of Namibia,” this is a geological marvel and a spiritual sanctuary.
Overnight at Spitzkoppe Tented Camp Accommodation or similar – Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 8 | Saturday
BRANDBERG
After a leisurely start we spend time exploring and climbing the granite boulders of Spitzkopppe, before venturing to the iconic Brandberg Mountain, the highest mountain in Namibia. Enjoy a guided hike to the Brandberg rock paintings, remarkable artworks estimated to be 2 000 to 4 000 years old, and considered to be some of the most well-preserved and significant rock paintings in southern Africa.
En route to Brandberg, we make a roadside stop to meet a local Himba tribe. We arrive at our next resting place at the foot of the mountain in the late afternoon. If you are still up for exploration, you have the option of heading out on a game drive in search of the elusive and rare desert elephant.
Overnight at Brandberg accommodation – Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 9 – 10 | Sunday – Monday
ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Our journey takes us up to Etosha, through breathtaking Damaraland – home to the Damara people. Further north we enter the renowned Etosha National Park, a highlight of our adventure. Encompassing over 22 270km², this is one of Africa’s largest wildlife reserves.
We spend 2 days on safari, exploring the park on game drives in our custom-built Drifters truck. On one of the days we will drive to the world famous Okekeujo waterhole before leaving in time to exit the park. If you’ve not yet had your fill of safari, you have the option of a sunset game drive on private land bordering the parks (time permitting).
Overnight at a lodge outside of Etosha – Breakfast, lunch and dinner and activities.
