Western Zimbabwe Highlights

Day 1
MATOBO NATIONAL PARK
Upon arrival at Bulawayo International Airport, guests will be greeted and transferred by road to Matobo National Park, the oldest national park in Zimbabwe (approximately 1 hour). The Matobo Hills are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Guests will spend days exploring in the footsteps of Cecil John Rhodes and Mzilikazi, two famous 19th Century men. It is here that the San Bushmen left their inscriptions on the rocks and caves over 2 000 years ago. The granite domes and castle kopjes echo the essence of tranquillity and majesty of untamed Africa, where wildlife and birdlife species thrive in prolific numbers.

Day 2-3
MATOBO NATIONAL PARK
Guests can spend the next 2 days exploring all that Amalinda Lodge and the Matobo National Park have to offer. Famous for its healthy population of endangered black and white rhino, which guests can track on foot, the area is one of the most sought after destinations in Zimbabwe.

Guests can also experience the history of the city of Bulawayo and Khami Ruins, the capital of the Torwa Dynasty which followed the disappearance of the state of Great Zimbabwe. This exclusive safari lodge is intimate and unique. Disguised in amongst some of these fascinating granite hills, the rooms offer a luxurious cave-like experience with magnificent, panoramic views over the hills and valley below.

Day 4
HWANGE NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast guests will be transferred by road, travelling north to Hwange National Park (approximately 3 hours). Hwange National Park is the largest nature park in Zimbabwe. It is close to the edge of the Kalahari Desert and offers no natural water sources to wildlife. Whilst pans fill up during the rainy season, all waterholes are pumped by lodge operators during the dry season. All of Zimbabwe’s specially protected animals are to be found in Hwange and the population of the Cape wild dogs is thought to be of one of the larger surviving groups in Africa today.

Day 5-6
HWANGE NATIONAL PARK
Khulu Bush Camp is situated on a private concession of 6 000 acres bordering the park. Guests will spend 2 nights in luxury en-suite tents in wildest Africa. Watch Hwange’s wildlife at Khulu’s floodlit waterhole from the comfort of the tent or from the elegantly designed main area.

The beauty of this camp is that it combines luxurious and private accommodation with old world hospitality. Khulu overlooks an ancient riverbed, in today’s terms called a ‘vlei’, known to attract a variety of the greatest wildlife and bird life in Hwange National Park, right on your doorstep. All rooms are equipped with a Nespresso machine, mini-bar, his and her basin, as well as outside and inside showers. Rooms can be converted to luxurious king sized or twin beds to suit the needs of the guest.

Morning and evening game drives or walks with a professional guide offer guests fantastic photo opportunities of the famous Presidential elephant herd as well as lion, leopard, cheetah, huge buffalo herds, and other plains game and bird species. Guests have the opportunity to visit the Painted Dog Conservation Centre nearby.

Day 7
VICTORIA FALLS
After an early morning and activity and breakfast guests depart by road for Victoria Falls (approximately 2.5 hours). Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is set high on a plateau allowing for stunning views over the unfenced Zambezi National Park. While a little out of town, the lodge offers luxurious African accommodation in an unsurpassed setting. A highlight each day is the vulture feeding at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge.

Day 8-9
VICTORIA FALLS
2 of the country’s top restaurants, The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show and the MaKuwa-Kuwa Restaurant, are located at the resort. MaKuwaKuwa celebrates the richness of Africa’s heritage with fine fare, unmatched hospitality and superb views whilst The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show offers an unforgettable African dining experience incorporating Zimbabwean cuisine, traditional dance performances as well as an interactive drumming show. The lodges offer convenient access to all the adventure and cultural activities available in the area.

Victoria Falls is located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and is considered to be the world’s largest waterfall due to its width of 1 708m. David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, is believed to have been the first European to view Victoria Falls on 16 November 1855, from what is now known as Livingstone Island, one of 2 land masses in the middle of the river, immediately upstream from the falls near the Zambian shore. Livingstone named his sighting in honour of Queen Victoria of Britain.

Day 10
DEPARTURE
Guests spend the morning at leisure. Transfer by road to Victoria Falls Airport from where guests continue with their own arrangements.
