Unlocking New Horizons

Our exploration team, manned by Paul Brinkmann and Guido Roeschlau, travelled to Lüderitz to attend the HAN (Hospitality Association of Namibia) congress that took place on 18th and 19th of February. During this time Namibia experienced an over-average rainfall and even the Namib Desert was blessed with tremendous rain showers. On a nature drive at Klein Aus Vista, the first overnight stay, heavy thunderclouds burst open and turned the normally dry desert ravines into raging rivers, truly a sight to behold and assurance that the desert horses and other desert dwellers have a secured food source for at least another year! The HAN Congress revolved around the opening up of the Tsau Khaeb National Park in the not too distant future, and a full day excursion showcased the tremendous potential this area has for opening up new possibilities for Namibia’s tourism industry. It is yet completely inaccessible since 1908, when the first diamonds were found, and entrance to the park is presently only granted to concession holders. Also known as the Sperrgebiet National Park (one of only 25 botanical hot spots worldwide), it consists of unique charms such as endless desert plains, massive mountain ranges, undulating dune belts and evacuated diamond mines. Along the coast, the majestic Bogenfels, a massive rock tunneled out by the forces of nature, towers over the rocky shoreline. The last evening at the Zannier Sonop Lodge, a luxurious gem in the heart of the southern Namib, ended the journey before their route took them back to Windhoek via exceptionally lush desert landscapes.

Rainy season and birthing months.

The Namibian summer rains are from November to April, making February the peak stormy month.

Traveling Namibia during rainy season and birthing months has many perks.

More water means lush vegetation, greener landscapes, flowing rivers and spectacular scenery.

Wildlife in abundance – Animal babies of all kinds, migrating bird species and wandering antelopes looking for the juiciest grass to indulge in. Wildlife no longer gathers around water holes like those we find in the Etosha National Park, making it harder to spot, but more adventurous to find them.

As this time is typical low season in the Namibian tourism, rates for accommodations tend to be more affordable and availability is better since less tourists will be visiting the country.

Explore Namibia in this beautiful time!
