Located in East Africa along the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Tanzania boasts three of Africa’s best-known lakes – Lake Victoria in the north; Lake Tanganyika in the west; and Lake Nyasa in the south. Tanzania is known for its vast wilderness areas including the plains of the Serengeti National Park (a safari Mecca populated by the ‘Big 5’); and Kilimanjaro National Park (home to Africa’s highest mountain).

High on any wildlife enthusiast’s bucket list, Tanzania is most famous for its annual migration of over 1 million white-bearded wildebeest and 200 000 zebra, which takes place during June and July.

Hike or trek and see the ice-capped Mount Kilimanjaro with its lower lying rain forests. Dive or snorkel and discover a colourful world off the coast of Zanzibar’s sandy beaches. Take a 4 x 4 through the Serengeti’s savannah plains. Explore the Ngorongoro’s mopane woodlands and salt pans. Tanzania’s most pleasant and refreshing surprises like Arabic and Indian influences in Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar.

The power supply is UK / European standard voltage of 220/240 and power sockets are UK style (square pin type). It is important to note that if you want to use US appliances, you will need a voltage converter as well as a plug converter. Power cuts and voltage fluctuation are not uncommon. Most of the safari lodges have generators or alternative source of power and may have specific times when they run.

Insurance to cover for medical, personal property and other personal risks during your safari is essential. Sense of Africa requires that all clients arrange for personal insurance. Sense of Africa works closely with Amref for emergency medical evacuation but this is just for emergency medical evacuation and cost of treatment is not included.
