Tanzania Mandates Local Currency For Tourism Transactions – Clarification
Payment of Government Fees: The Government of Tanzania has implemented the payment of government fees (Park entrance, concession/WMA) in Tanzania Shillings effective from 01st July 2024. However, this change has no direct impact on our guests on the ground. These fees are included in the safari packages, and we handle all payment processes to the service providers locally, including government-related payments.
Supplier Payments: Payments to our suppliers (accommodation, flights, excursions, etc.) are still made in USD. This may change to Tanzania Shillings in the future, but we will keep you posted should there be any cost impact.
Zanzibar: This destination is currently not affected by the new regulation as Zanzibar operates under a separate system from Tanzania mainland.
Bills Payments on the Ground: Guests can still pay their personal bills in USD at hotels, camps, and restaurants. Visa payments are also still done in USD or by credit card at entry points.
We are closely monitoring this change, and any further impact it may have on us, our agents/guests will be communicated to you.
