US Lifts Rwanda Travel Advisory Following Marburg Containment
The United States has lifted its Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Rwanda after the successful containment of the Marburg virus outbreak, a move welcomed by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). Africa CDC deployed over 30 public health experts within 24 hours of the declaration, supporting Rwanda with laboratory networks, surveillance systems and community engagement strategies. The outbreak is expected to be officially declared over on 12 December 2024, following 42 days without new cases.
Kenya Plans Underwater Shipwreck Museum In Kilifi
The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) is developing an underwater museum at Ras Ngomeni in Kilifi County. The museum will showcase shipwrecks along Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast, focusing on a 16th-century Portuguese vessel—Kenya’s oldest known shipwreck. Visitors will experience both above-water artefact displays and underwater tunnels providing direct access to submerged relics. The museum will also function as a research centre for the diverse marine life, including fish, turtles, and dolphins, inhabiting the shipwrecks.
Asilia Africa I Kusini Airstrip Update
Following a recent update from Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), Kusini Airstrip in The Serengeti, will not re-open as planned this season. This will impact guests due to stay at Asilia’s Ubuntu Migration Camp on game package this season, as all airlines will now route flights into Ndutu. Flying into Ndutu Airstrip will increase transfer times to Ubuntu Migration Camp by approximately one hour. Due to Ndutu Airstrip’s location in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) additional park fees will now also be due on arrival and departure days. Asilia Africa will absorb the additional fees for clients travelling to Ubuntu on game package between now and the 16th of January 2025. The additional fees will be passed onto all new bookings and new invoices will be issued to all bookings travelling after the 16th of January. Our Tour Consultants will be in touch in the coming weeks with details of specific Ubuntu bookings which have been impacted.
Kamok Airstrip Unserviceable
The Komok Airstrip will be closed to landings for renovation works from 29th November 2024 to 13th December 2024. During this time, Nanyuki Civil Airstrip shall be the main alternative.
Lobo Airstrip
Currently closed until the end of December 2024. All flights have been moved to Kogatende Airstrip.

Closure Dates For &BEYOND Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp
&BEYOND Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp will undergo a partial rebuild from 16 January to 30 April 2025. During this period, the camp’s 12 existing Classic Tents will be redesigned into six brand-new Superior Tents. While the renovations are underway, the camp will remain open and operating as per usual.
Closure Dates For &BEYOND Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
&BEYOND Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is set to close for extensive rebuild from 16 January 2025. While exact dates are to be confirmed, in the meantime the rate sheet has been updated and closed bookings until mid-January 2027.
