At Sense of Africa, people are the greatest asset and the soul of the business with DNA built on the values the company holds most dear. Every year, 15-20 exceptional students get the opportunity for first-hand tutelage training with Sense of Africa across East Africa. They are taken through various departments for three or six months. Drivers and guides are trained every year to improve their knowledge, skills, attitudes, customer service and competencies necessary for them to effectively and efficiently guide visitors from all over the world. Sense of Africa also has ongoing training arrangements with Strathmore University and the renowned Kenya Utalii College in Nairobi for team refresher courses.
Uganda Travel Advisory Eased Following End Of Ebola Outbreak
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for Uganda following the announcement on 26th April, 2025 that the Ebola outbreak has officially ended. The update, reflected on the FCDO’s Health page, confirms that there are no longer any exceptional health concerns related to Ebola in the country.
Kenya Airways And Safarilink Sign Codeshare Deal
Kenya Airways has announced a strategic codeshare agreement with Safarilink Aviation, expanding domestic connectivity to nine key destinations. According to the airlines, the partnership will offer “seamless travel” by linking the Kenya Airways global network with Safarilink’s domestic reach.
Airasia X Axes Kuala Lumpur-Nairobi Route
AirAsia X will suspend its Kuala Lumpur-Nairobi route from September 1, citing lower-than-expected travel demand. All affected passengers with travel bookings on this route from September 1 onwards have been notified and offered alternatives. These include a full refund, a credit account or a one-time, free-of-charge flight change for travel before August 31.
Tanzania: Marriott To Open Safari Camp In Serengeti
Marriott International will open the first Autograph Collection safari camp in Tanzania’s Serengeti. Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, expected to open in the third quarter of 2025, is set near the Fort Ikoma Gate of Serengeti National Park. Positioned between Central Serengeti and the western migration corridor, the camp lies directly along the Great Migration route.
ENVI Lodges Adds Second Property In Serengeti, Tanzania
ENVI Lodges opened ENVI Sisini Mara on May 1st , 2025 marking the group’s second property in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. The camp is located in the northern section of the park, close to one of the key Mara River crossing points along the Great Migration route. It is a 40-minute drive from Kogatende Airstrip and a 20-minute drive from the river.
Tanzania: Temporary Closure Of Maramboi Tented Lodge Until 1st July 2025
Maramboi Tented Lodge has announced its temporary closure until July 1st 2025, due to a significant increase in the water levels of Lake Manyara. This closure is a necessary measure to ensure the safety and comfort of guests, as the lodge is unable to operate as intended under the current conditions. The lodge is awaiting the recession of the water levels to facilitate essential repairs to access roads and lodge facilities. In the interim, Maramboi Tented Lodge is actively working to reallocate existing bookings to their nearby sister properties, Burunge Baobab Tented Lodge and Burunge Tented Lodge. Guests with existing reservations will be contacted shortly with specific updates regarding their bookings. For guests who prefer to cancel their booking and make alternative arrangements, a full refund of any deposit or payment made will be issued.
A New Look For Iconic Serengeti Lodge
Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti is nearing the end of its multi-year upgrade project with renovations focused on sustainability, energy efficiency and the modernization of guest facilities. Updates include full refurbishments of all 72 guest rooms and five villas, set for completion by May 2025. The design incorporates references to Maasai culture through textiles and furniture while modernizing in-room amenities to meet international standards.

Ishara, in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, has shared an exciting video providing a walk-through its recent transformation. The camp officially reopened in February 2025, after a nine-month refurbishment, with a Nordic-inspired thermal circuit, an aeroponic farm and interactive kitchen, upgraded Canon photography studio, starbed experience and a new villa suite with an infinity pool and fire deck.

Update From Heritage Hotels: Voyager Beach Resort Facilities Upgrades
Voyager Beach Resort is pleased to announce the latest progress in its ongoing enhancements, aimed at elevating the guest experience and reinforcing its commitment to excellence. The refurbishment of the reception bathrooms is now complete and the facilities have been officially commissioned. The Jahazi Conference Room space has been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility. The stairs from the Sports Pool to Deck E pathway is in the final stages of completion and will soon provide seamless access between these key areas of the resort. Renovations to Smugglers Cove are currently underway and are expected to be completed in approximately six weeks. These enhancements are part of the resort’s ongoing repairs and maintenance program, designed to minimize guest disruption while consistently improving facilities.
