Kenya Touts ‘One Tree Per Tourist’ Initiative

Kenya has unveiled a plan that will require each tourist to plant a tree when visiting the country, with the vision of helping to mitigate the effects of climate change. Cabinet Secretary for Wildlife and Tourism Alfred Mutua launched the ‘One Tree per Tourist’ campaign on National Tree Planting Day on Friday, May 10, describing the initiative as a significant stride in Kenya’s battle against climate change and in protecting biodiversity. Hotel Group Makes East African Debut

Pullman Hotels & Resorts, an Accor brand, will make its debut in East Africa in June with the opening of Pullman Hotel Nairobi Upper Hill. The 162-room hotel will target both the business and leisure markets, featuring state-of-the-art meeting and events spaces, along with a fitness centre, a heated outdoor pool and a brasserie restaurant. The hotel is located in the Kenyan capital’s financial district, a 15-minute drive from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Cottar’s Update On The Post-Flood Situation In The Maasai Mara

Things have turned around quite rapidly since the early May floods, and the following are positive updates from Cottar’s Safaris in the Maasai Mara: The bridge at Sand River Gate has been temporarily fixed, so access routes are improved. Resupply channels are working without compromise to the guest experience. Although we cannot predict future weather patterns, the rains seem to have now subsided. The roads are still a bit muddy, but they had their first clients come through and all have had a very enjoyable safari with great game viewing!

Kokoko Camp

Asilia’s newest camp is due to open on 1 July 2024 and will put the focus firmly on nature, reminding guests of the true essence of safari. Kokoko is located in the prime wildlife area of Ruaha National Park in southern Tanzania, on the edge of a forest and overlooking the dry Mwagusi River bed. The camp has three simple tents in either double or twin format, with an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and bucket shower. The retractable roof can be folded back on clear nights, leaving only the mosquito net mesh overhead for sleeping under the stars.

Mara Leisure Re-Opens

Mara Leisure Camp is officially reopening and accepting bookings starting May 17, 2024. After the unfortunate floods in the Masai Mara, the lodge was affected. However, they are pleased to report significant progress in repairing and restoring the camp. Kindly note that they are not back to full inventory yet and repairs are ongoing.
